About Pride Index

Pride Index is an open data tracker monitoring the state of LGBT+ rights and social acceptance across 65 countries. It aggregates data from international human rights organizations, government sources, and academic research to produce a composite acceptance score for each country.

Scoring methodology

Each country receives a score from 0–100 based on five equally-weighted rights indicators, plus a social acceptance bonus component.

Categories

Very accepting (75–100%) — Full or near-full rights with strong social acceptance
Partly accepting (50–74%) — Some legal rights, inconsistent protections
Limited rights (20–49%) — Basic legal tolerance but few formal rights
Hostile (0–19%) — Criminalization or active state persecution
